Constructed in 1966 along Mao Tse Toung Boulevard in Phnom Penh, Vann Molyvann’s residence stands as a powerful testament to his visionary approach to architecture. Serving both as his family home and architectural office, the house is a prime example of the New Khmer Architecture movement—seamlessly blending modernist principles with traditional Khmer elements. One of the most striking features is the roof, whose intricate engineering highlights Molyvann’s dedication to uniting form and function in perfect harmony. In recent years, this iconic residence has entered a new chapter, now serving as the flagship branch of Brown Coffee, a well-known Cambodian coffee brand. The transformation was carried out by Brown’s owner, who also leads an architectural firm with a philosophy closely aligned with Molyvann’s vision. This thoughtful collaboration represents a meaningful continuation of the house’s architectural legacy. Importantly, all original design elements have been preserved. Brown Coffee has only repainted and made functional updates where necessary—leaving the soul of the structure untouched. This respectful restoration allows visitors to enjoy a unique space where heritage, architecture, and community converge.
